Special recognition for essential workers

As we grapple with the uncertainty of what comes next, good news has a way of warming our hearts. While we know the hard work and dedication of professionals with disabilities is keeping many essential facilities operational during this time, it is a touching moment when we learn that they are being recognized by their customers. 

At the Eagle Pass Port of Entry connecting Eagle Pass, Texas with Mexico, professionals with disabilities employed through member nonprofit agency Enterprise Professional Services, Inc. (EPSI), continue to provide custodial and ground services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their team has remained hyper-focused on ensuring that facilities at two separate border station bridges remain clean. EPSI staff members are providing enhanced disinfection cleaning at these locations after some suspected cases of COVID-19 occurred at the facilities. 

Their hard work has not gone unnoticed. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), spearheaded by the Port Director and with the help of the Eagle Pass Police department, recently held a small ceremony -- complete with a cookout -- to recognize the above-and-beyond efforts of the essential EPSI team.

The port's entire chain of command honored the employees with small tokens of appreciation for the work they have done to ensure that the CBP employees stay safe during the pandemic. The EPSI on-site lead, Joe Guerra, has demonstrated stellar leadership as a dedicated project manager. 

"I couldn't be prouder of Joe and our team," said Stephan Saia, President and CEO of EPSI. "This recognition is a true testament of their commitment to our customer and the EPSI mission."

Joe Guerra agrees. "We just do our jobs as best we can every day. We never expected such a thoughtful gesture of appreciation," said Guerra. "We're humbled and grateful to be recognized this way."
