iCAN Resources Inc. obtains professional designation with honors through SourceAmerica’s Custodial Certification Grant

In the COVID-19 environment, properly disinfecting the workplace is critical to employee health and safety. National disability employment leader SourceAmerica^®, in partnership with the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA), launched a Custodial Certification Grant for nonprofit agencies in its network to help them continue to meet customers’ evolving needs. Through the grant, participating nonprofit agencies employing people with disabilities have access to a streamlined version of the Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) certification program, as well as training, financial assistance and technical resources offered by SourceAmerica.

iCAN Resources Inc. (iCAN) in Asan, Guam, recently became the first SourceAmerica nonprofit agency to obtain CIMS-Green Building (GB) certification with honors through the Custodial Certification Grant Program. Achieving this designation meant that iCAN’s management, operations and processes went above and beyond the “green” environmentally preferable cleaning requirements, demonstrating their true commitment to professional excellence.

“iCAN, along with our customers, realized even before the pandemic that custodial teams play a large part in keeping us all safe and healthy. We wanted to elevate our current service performance and apply industry best practices,” said Laura Espinosa, iCAN’s Managing Director. “CIMS-GB provides the standard to deliver consistent quality services to meet our customers’ changing needs and expectations.”

SourceAmerica Quality Manager Greer Newman, with the support of SourceAmerica’s custodial subject matter experts, helped prepare iCAN for the CIMS-GB certification process.

“Exceptional custodial services are what customers require now more than ever,” Newman said. “In the pandemic, we’re seeing an increased demand in professional capabilities, including a need for specialized skills and training. When an organization achieves CIMS-GB certification, it shows their professional commitment to providing quality services that the customer can rely on,” Newman said.

As Guam’s largest employer of people with disabilities, iCAN also participates in the AbilityOne^® Program, one of the largest sources of employment for people who are blind or have significant disabilities in the United States. iCAN provides AbilityOne support services to the U.S. military in Guam through base-wide custodial services for Anderson Air Force Base (AAFB), the AAFB Medical Treatment Facility, three Department of Defense Education Activity schools and the U.S. Coast Guard facility at Naval Base Guam.
