SourceAmerica honors the message of Martin Luther King, Jr.

SourceAmerica has been helping to create job opportunities for people with disabilities for nearly 50 years. During that time, much has happened - including the 1990 passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 1974, when SourceAmerica first started as the National Institute for the Severely Handicapped (NISH), we stood for an inclusive nation and work environment. As we commemorate the 92nd anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birth, SourceAmerica is proud to continue to stand for inclusivity.  

Dr. King was a connector, a leader who brought people together during a tumultuous time in our nation’s history. It was his “dream” that one day every boy and girl would have the same opportunities - regardless of race, disability, creed, color, or financial status. While his epic speech on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in the summer of 1963 remains a pillar of the Civil Rights movement, its greater message is that of an inclusive America. 

SourceAmerica is also a connector, with a determination to be a force for change. By connecting people with disabilities to job opportunities, we are pushing forward every day to make a difference and bring inclusiveness for the largest minority group in the nation - people with disabilities. We are determined to unite individuals and organizations committed to increasing economic and social inclusion for people with disabilities. 

In his last Sunday sermon before his assassination, King said, “If a man doesn’t have a job or income, he has neither life, nor liberty, nor the possibility for the pursuit of happiness.”  Working together—with federal and nonprofit agencies, policymakers, and the disability community at large — SourceAmerica is making progress every day to provide people with disabilities with that possibility.
